aboriginal playgroups

Kutalayna & Kanamaluka Plays are community-led playgroups that embed cultural practices in early childhood specifically for local Aboriginal children and their families.

Free play to explore the country allows opportunities for intergenerational participation and learning, enriching the children's experiences and deepening their understanding of their cultural heritage, original place names, and the importance of country and care for

Lutruwita/Tasmanian land.

The playgroup's culturally informed program is designed to reflect the cultural practices of the local Tasmanian Aboriginal community. Incorporating and creatively working with natural elements such as ochre, shells, native plants, traditional foods, and storytelling promotes cognitive, sensory, and physical development while enhancing social and emotional

well-being.

Connected Beginnings Lutruwita/Tasmania and our sites near Kutalayna/Jordan River, Pataway/Burnie and Kanamaluka/River Tamar pay our respects to Palawa/Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the original owners of Lutruwita/Tasmania. And we acknowledge elders past and present.
